Hi everyone,
I'm sharing a small macOS app I built to automate copying DCPs onto external hard drives for theatrical delivery.
What it does:
- Formats one or several external drives as MBR + ext2 or ext3 (your choice), with 128-byte inode size — the standard convention expected by most cinema playback servers
- Copies one or several DCP folders at once, onto one or several target drives simultaneously (handy for duplicating the same delivery across multiple drives in one go)
- Drag and drop folders directly from Finder, or use the classic file picker
- Automatically locks the drive read-only once copying is complete
- Detailed progress bars (current file + overall progress), live log
- Ignore list for drives (handy for permanently excluding a personal backup drive from the target list, avoiding an accidental mistake)
- Native macOS interface, in English

One important difference from DCP-o-matic's Disk Writer (Carl Hetherington): unlike his tool, which writes directly to the raw disk without ever mounting it (via a bundled libext2fs, no external dependency), ROUGEGORGE DCP TO DISK requires a third-party solution to be installed on the Mac to mount and write ext2/ext3 — either Paragon extFS for Mac (paid) or fuse-ext2 via macFUSE (free, but a more technical install).
This is a deliberate trade-off rather than a limitation: going through a proper mounting solution makes the drive usable normally by macOS once mounted — visible in Finder, browsable, visually checkable before shipping it out, compatible with any other tool that expects a regular mounted volume. DCP-o-matic's "write without mounting" approach needs nothing else installed.
Happy to answer any questions or take feedback!
Best

+1 for the "Les Enfants du Paradis" reference.
