Hi,
I found an issue when importing an EBU STL file with colour formatting and using it as Closed Captions.
The STL contains no visible subtitle line longer than 32 characters, but DCP-o-matic still reports that some lines exceed 32 characters.
I confirmed the visible line lengths in Subtitle Edit. When I remove the colour/control formatting from the STL, the warning disappears.
With the coloured STL, EasyDCP Player also reports:
At least 79 empty XML nodes encountered
Inspection of the generated timed text shows empty <Font ...></Font> elements around colour changes.
If I use a SMPTE XML with the same colours expressed correctly as ARGB and import that into DCP-o-matic, the Closed Captions are generated correctly and EasyDCP Player shows no warning.
So the problem seems to be specifically in the EBU STL → SMPTE Timed Text conversion, probably in the handling of colour/control codes.

Do you have an example STL file that triggers this? That would be helpful. You could email it to carl@dcpomatic.com or attach it here.
