Subtitles, alternative to annotation Edit

Post by Robin Erard »

Hello,

As Annotation Edit is dead, I decided to code a new software to edit Subtitles.

Rougegorge Subtitles : https://vimeo.com/1115832431

It exports XML smpte and Interop.

Fair work for an even more fair price!
If I may, I would like to propose something for version 1.1
If you are going to work on adding the choice of other fonts, apart from Ariel, consider font compression. A relevant discussion here: https://dcpomatic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2508
Also, if one works with DCPs, maybe allow import on the player of DCP reels. Or, since there is a renderer available, allow making a proxy out of a DCP for the subtitles. In that case, maybe allow cutting off existing headers. (So to avoid setting the offset, as you describe.)

Besides that, what I couldn't understand, watching the video is this: You have on the subtitles' list the number of vertical shift (décalage), yet is there a place that defines where vertical position 0 is? If it's some prefixed position or percentage, is that something that stays the same or changes for Flat, Scope, F-200 (yes, we have that as well) etc?

Hello,

Thank’s for your feedback.

About de “Décalage”, the 0 line corresponds to a 0 line of offset from the baseline of the project. The baseline is defined at the bottom of the main window: 6% by default.

So an offset of 2 lines will offset the subtitle by two lines. Calculated like this : top line (11.5) - project baseline (6) = a step of 5.5 percent. So 11% from the the baseline of the project. An offset of 2 lines will put the subtitle at 11% + 6% = 17% in this case.

As everything is in percentage, it works with scope, flat, full, and all others format.

About Font, the easiest solution would be to integrate some usefull font, often used in DCP mastering (Geneva, helvetica…). What you think about a solution like that?

About reel, I developed an other software to split SRT in reel from the reel length. But importing a dcp into my app seems difficult. What could be done is exporting XML in reel from the CPL information. Could you explain the workflow you have in mind ?
