Hello, I am currently working on a project with both stereo and 5.1 mixes,
Usually I would make two different DCP OV, one with stereo mapped to 8 channels and one with 5.1 mapped to 8 channels. But I was wondering if it was ok to make one OV with for example the 5.1 Mix and then add the other Mix as VF, so I wouldn't have to process two DCPs.
Is that allowed and common practice ?
Why would you create a stereo DCP at all if there is 5.1 sound?
If necessary, it's no problem to create a stereo DCP as a VF based on a 5.1 OV, provided that both OV and VF use the same number of audio channels in the audio MXF(s), that is 6 or 8.
I have had in the past a venue that asked me for a stereo DCP so I guess I'm preparing for every case scenario. Anyway, thanks you I will proceed with VF DCP !
Hmm, that's weird. Because, unless this is a very special venue, the majority of DCPs in cinema is 5.1, and if they are not able to use 5.1 audio, they would be in trouble (or, again, a venue that plays no standard DCPs at all).
