Audio Offset 1 Second when review in DCP programs

Post by kingfisher »

Hello, I have a film, no different from any of the others I've made. (24 fps, FinalCut Pro, Prores 422.) I have the audio file made by my sound mixer (24 fps, 48 bit stereo), and perfectly in sync, with 2-pops at each end that line up in the rendered file. However, this particular film shows the audio file as being 1 second early in all DCP products (creator and player). I offset the audio by one second and it shows perfectly in both products. However when I tested it in the theater, it was out of sync by exactly the one second I added. I found I could test it in Resolve, and it was off by the same 1 second as the theater.

When I ignore the time offset in DCP-o-matic, and don't add any time, it still shows as wrong in DCP products, but it plays back perfectly in Resolve. I'm trying to get it to the theater, now under a time crunch, but have no clue if it will be in sync or not. I've NEVER had this problem with any other films. Any thoughts?

I'm creating all my DCPs on a Mac Studio from FCPX files. Everything is up to date.

If you have 2-pops, can't you check the alignment in DCP-o-matic as well? Which version of DCP-o-matic are you using?

Do you use any special audio or video interfaces when playing it back (e.g. HD-SDI, external audio interface)?

What happens if you play back in DCP-o-matic player?

The problem is that the sound of the 2-pop (and all audio) is 1 second early in DCP o-matic (both maker & player). when I offset the audio by 1 second, so it looked good in DCP-o-matic, it was 1 second late in the theater, and as I saw later in Davinci. So there seems to be something, in only this one film, that makes DCP-O-Matic read the audio 1 second early. I'm not going through any audio interface. Just monitor sound. Thank you/

That's odd. Is it feasible for me to get a copy of the source files you are using?

Thank you.

contains a small version of the movie, and the DCP file I made from it. The film shows out of sync on my DCP-O-Matic programs, but in sync in DaVinci Resolve.

Thanks for the link. Both the original file and DCP play fine for me, so I think there is something strange going on with the audio output of DCP-o-matic...

Maybe Kingfisher can show us a screenshot of his DCP-o-matic audio device settings in prefs. Although on a Mac Studio...

Maybe as a test try the latest DCP-o-matic 2.14. (59 I believe)? Just download player alone.

It's possible that the audio latency compensation is going crazy and doing way too much. I'll add some logging for that.

Perhaps you could try playing back this DCP with the "Debug: Player" option ticked in advanced preferences, then show us the log file?

Please use this version, as it has more logging:
