[Solved] Could not open file -1094995529 error

Post by dcpo3409 »

Hello everyone,

I want to create a DCP from an mp4 file, but I get the message "could not open file for read (-1094995529).

However, I can play the file in VLC without any problem with synchronized image and sound.

Attached is a screenshot in DCP-o-matic, export of MediaInfo, and Ffmpeg -i

I tried to convert it with Handbrake but it can't open either.

Do you have any idea what could be wrong or what software I could use to convert the file first ?

Seems like an issue with that specific MP4 file. You could try to create an intermediate format using e.g. Handbrake.

Of course, chances are that other programs will also fail on it. I guess Carl would like to see that file, is it possible to upload it somewhere for him?

Sure you have access rights to that folder where the file lies?

Well, like you I think this is a problem specific to this file. I just updated DCP-o-matic, but the result is the same. I also tried to open the file with Handbrake but it cannot open it (screenshot attached). I don't think it's an access problem (I'm on Windows 10) because I just created other DCPs with files located in the same folder. I will send you a private message with the link to download the file. Thanks for your help.

Update: apparently I can't send a private message... How can I provide you with the link to download the file without making it public?

I understand that VLC has a hidden or, less known, transcoding option as well.

I sent the file to Carl on Monday. Before creating the topic on the forum, I did a quick conversion test in VLC but it didn't seem to work. Finally I took the time to test different file conversions in VLC :
  • to dumpRawInput : file is empty
  • to MKV : the first minutes can be played in VLC but then the file is corrupted, the same goes for when creating a DCP from the file (ok for the first minutes, impossible beyond that).
  • to raw : file ok in VLC and DCP-o-matic but DCP player play only 1 second !
  • to mpeg1 : no image or sound in VLC, ok in DCP-o-matic, image ok but whitout sound in DCP Player...
  • to h264+mp3 : ok in VLC, DCP-o-matic et DCP Player
  • to avi : VLC tell that "Broken or missing index" (See Attachment). If I choose "play as it" the image is pixelated, if I choose "Build index then play" it's ok. Ok in DCP-o-matic and DCP Player
I did the h264+mp3 test on a snippet after making the entire file into AVI, so I ended up using the AVI conversion.

Thanks for your help.

This is probably an issue for specialised MP4 file repair tools.
