Hi. I've been asked to create a DCP with subtitles from a SRT file. Reading the docs it seems fairly straightforward forward but how have people found it in reality?
Is there anything specific I should ask for from the person sending the SRT file?
The film is in 23.97 fps, is this relevant? Guess what I am asking is if it works in VLC will it work in DCP?
Are there any pitfalls?
Lastly, how does it work on the disc? Is it two or one package (folder)? How does a projectionist decide whether to play the subtitles or not?
Regards,
Ben

Re: SRT subtitles, possible issues?
With SRT it's important to know the frame rate that the subtitles "assume" (since the file does not include it). If your original is 23.97, it's easiest if the SRT is also prepared for that rate.
Though it is sometimes possible for the projectionist to disable/enable subtitles on their system, a much easier (and more common) way is to make two DCPs. One is an OV which contains picture and sound - this is what you play if you don't want subtitles. Then you also make a VF, which adds only the subtitles (and refers to the OV, so it can be very small). Then if the projectionist wants subtitles they play the VF.
