Match Apple Pro Res with 5.1Sound

Post by Kai5 »

Dear Community

I need a dcp made from an Apple ProRes and extra 5.1 Audio (& Seperate Files i got from the sound designer)
Is it ok to load the Apple ProRes Video, then the 6 Audiofiles, make the seetings and it will be connected right?
Does the Apple ProRes need to have no Audio?

Or maybe you know of an tutorial about that? Would be great as i need the dcp until tomorrow.

Best Kai :P

Hi Kai,

Yes, that is possible; like you say, load all the files, make sure they all start at time 0, then set up the audio maps for file one by one.

You can unmap any channels from the prores so that they go nowhere. Then map your L audio only to channel L, your R audio to channel R, and so on.

I think Carl had a tutorial video about this. But it seems it has been lost: https://dcpomatic.com/videos/audio_mapping.mp4

However, when you load individual files for multichannel, you need to assign the files all individually in the audio matrix, and make sure if you change settings (e.g. trimming, gain, etc.), that you copy all the settings to ALL audio files.
In general, it is easier to work with an interleaved/combo 5.1 file.

It doesn't matter if your video file comes with it's own audio - if it does have audio, you need to disable it (unassign in the audio matrix), so that only the separate audio is used.

The URL changed to https://dcpomatic.com/video_files/audio_mapping.mp4 though it is from a rather old DoM version :o And I do go through it at a rate of knots!

It's on my list to make some new videos...
