4k JPEG2000 bandwidth/processing time

Post by funkytwig »

Just had a look and the max bandwidth for 4k is the same as 2k, this seems wrong (I would of expected 3-4x).

Also be good to know a rough estimate of how much longer they take to create.

2k and 4k max datarates are identical per DCI/SMPTE spec (same as for 2k/3D/48fps). Only HFR DCPs are allowed a higher datarate.

Quite a few people mess around with the max datarate for no real reason.

As for processing time, it your system has enough memory to keep it from swapping, 3-4* longer than 2k is typical.

4k eats a lot more memory, especially if you use many encoding threads.
