Resolve 15 - JPG2000 encoding

Post by skiff »

Hi
I try to find a way to increase the encoding time (4.5 fps) by software so it is better to export from Resolve 15 JPG2000 and not in DOM (openjpeg)

I saw in Resolve 15 they add to export DCP not only by easyDCP also by the one software but the GPU is not professional enough and many options not appear.

Maybe good idea is to export from Resolve 15 JPG2000 images sequence and to import it to DOM.

Any idea, news testing about the compatibility of the JPG2000 (Resolve 15) to DLP server?

Attached pictures of the settings from Resolve

My computer is: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
DOM - DCP-o-matic: 2.12.8

I did some tests with Resolve 15, and so far, it does seem to work, but this doesn't qualify as a solid test. Without a doubt, it is better now than the standard JPEG2000/XYZ export of previous versions (that wasn't DCI compatible at all).

The Kakadu software is well established and reknown for it's encoding speed, but as for all J2K encoders, the specific requirements for DCI/SMPTE compliant cinema profiles have to be met.

As far as I know, 4k export is not possible with the free Resolve version, but that isn't a real issue for most people I guess.
