How to add subtitle indication to a DCP file after production?

Post by COgilvy »

I created a DCP file from an MP4 that already had English subtitling. When converting the MP4 to a DCP I was only able to set the language (Japanese), but was unable to find a way to set subtitle language, or even input that subtitles were included. (See image attached)

I need the DCP file to indicate it contains subtitles. How can I fix this, and if not, how do I make sure it is indicated when making a new one?

That "subtitles: no" will always say that for your case ("burnt-in" subtitles) as it only refers to subtitles being rendered by the projection system.

Burnt-in subtitles are actually only indicated in the ISDCF name of the DCP, so rather than "...Dcp_FTR-1_F-178_JA-XX..." yours should say "...Dcp_FTR-1_F-178-JA-ja..." - the lower-case ja indicates burnt-in subtitles.

The way to get this to happen in DoM is to right-click your video file in the content list and go to "Advanced settings..." In there is a check box "Video has burnt-in subtitles in the language" which you can tick, then click "Edit..." to set the language to Japanese.

If you still have the DCP-o-matic project you can re-create it after setting this setting and it should make a new DCP quickly.
