Hi all,
Thanks to the work of Martin Hering (and Claude) there is a test version of DCP-o-matic that offers a substantial (around 2x in my brief tests so far) speed-up in JPEG2000 encoding on Apple Silicon macs.
I would be interested to hear of any experiences with this version: particularly success or failure stories when running DCPs that it made, and also benchmarks.
I added a result from a MacBook M1 and would be interested to hear of any other benchmark results (there are instructions here on how to contribute a benchmark in a reliable way).
The Metal acceleration is turned off by default - you can enable it by ticking the "Enable Metal accelaration" check box in the GPU section of the preferences.
Thanks,
Carl

Re: macOS Metal GPU acceleration available for test
Carl,
I've sent you an email with a few logs (2.18.50, 2.19.1. 2.19.2 Metal and non-Metal), but here's a number that should get people excited about this new Metal acceleration feature: on my MacBook Pro M5 Pro (15 CPU/16 GPU) with the Sintel benchmark, I got...
179 fps!
And a still fast 60 fps with the Metal turned off.
