file transfer errors

Post by unicci »

Hello!

I am having a bit of a nightmare trying to transfer DCP files from my computer hard drive to an external hard drive. Many files have an error after some time 'Can't read source file or disk' but all of the files work perfectly when opening them up. I'm on WIndows 10, and the drive is fine. The error is replicated on a different HD.

I have more success when transferring .zips of the DCP than with transferring extracted folders.

Does anyone have any experience with this error or how to mitigate? I have about 25 of these huge files to move and they keep failing!

Thank you in advance!!

How are your external drives formatted? With NTFS?

all NTFS.

I could try on an exFat drive but the cinema I'm delivering to doesn't have the capabilities to ingest exFat drives

And you're just copying the files with Windows explorer or whatever?

yes. I have tried cmd robocopy but it fails at the same juncture as the normal explorer transfer protocol

Could it be some hardware problem? Did you already try a different USB port and/or cable? It's hard to imagine how this could be a Windows bug.

it must be an internal drive error. i have two HDs in the computer, when I copy from one to the other, the same error is replicated. It appears my only solution will be to redownload all the films direct to my external HD.

thank you for the support >_<

Could also be a memory issue.

Do you have the same problem when copying off your system/OS drive? Is that an SSD?
