Serious playback / software issue after updating to 2.18.39

I've encountering an odd bug / issue after installing the latest version of DOM, and it's really interfering with a project I need to complete.

I'm running DOM on a M4 Mac Mini, OS 15.6.1 (24G90).

After installing the latest version of DOM, I started a new project with two MP4 files; both files are h264, 1080p, 23.976.

One file is a short 5 second company logo, and the second is a feature length film. I have used the same company logo MP4 file in other DCP projects in DOM without issue.

When I add the company logo file and play it back in DOM, it plays twice before moving on to the next film file. It is only loaded in the project once.

When I delete it, and try to play the other file (feature film), DOM plays back the company logo instead.

• I've tried closing DOM and re-opening, same issue.
  I've tried shutting down my Mac and starting again. Same issue.
  I've tried deleting the project and making a new one. Same issue.
  I've tried several older versions of DOM, including 2.16.99 and 2.18.35. Same issue.

2.18.35 actually crashed after I deleted the logo file and was trying to play back the feature, and returned the following:

An exception occurred: Programming error at ../src/lib/player.cc:1504 .

Did 2.18.39 introduce some sort of system issue?

UPDATE: I dropped the logo MP4 into Resolve and exported a ProResHQ file. Dropped into a new DOM project. It played back twice.

UPDATE 2: I uninstalled DOM using AppCleaner (saved some logs and crash reports), then reinstalled 2.18.20, which I know I've used successfully. Loaded the company logo ProRes and previewed. It played once. Added the feature film file and previewed again. The logo file played twice.

Hi,

It's hard to imagine how going back to the previous version would not fix the problem - the DCP-o-matic code is contained entirely within the .app (and the contents of the .pkg if you install the disk writer).

Unfortuantely I can't immediately reproduce your problem. Could you send me this company logo MP4 file you are testing with? And also the "metadata.xml" and "log" files from inside the last broken project you made?

Thanks Carl, I just emailed you.

I actually just went back to 2.16 on an older intel Mac and tested this with the same logo MP4 file, and got the same result. No idea what could be going on; I've used this same file many times in the past. I imported the file from three different locations, and tried adding a few different film files after it, and it always plays twice. On its own, it's fine.

So, it must be an issue on my end, and with that logo film file. But, thank you for looking at the logs and the crash report.

When this happened, did you try to open timeline view?


Also - even if the file plays back twice - can you try to create a DCP from the project and test it in player in order to see wether it is also actually encoded twice?
