issues playing back dcp files.

Post by blackcatwhitecat »

so i've rendered a few dcp files with dcp o matic, and i tested them afterwards, and they played fine.

however, they don't seem to want to play if a drive containing the original mov file is not attached to the computer.

what am i doing wrong?

Hi, it sounds like maybe you are trying to play back the DCP-o-matic project (which will play your MOV) rather than the DCP you made. If you look in the DCP-o-matic project folder you should see a subfolder with a long name like YourFilm_FTR-2_F_DE-XX_DE_51_2K_TCFG_20260605_CPP_IOP_OV. That's your DCP. If you open that in the DCP-o-matic Player it should play whether your MOV is there or not.

i suspect that's what is happening. which file is the dcp o matic project?

does it matter if i render to the same drive the source mov file is on?

The project folder is the one you chose when you did File -> New. It should contain files like metadata.xml, log, ffprobe.log etc. and also your new DCP folder. See https://dcpomatic.com/manual/html/ch14.html for an example.
