Hello,
I get the "The first subtitle or closed caption is less than 4 seconds from the start of the DCP." warning, but my subtitles do not start that early. Specifically, the subtitles are forced for captions etc. in the same language as the audio and they only start in reel 3.
The DCP is split in multiple reels and is SMPTE with encrypted subs setting with the resulting DCP having a subtitle file for each reel even if not all reels have subtitles.
is there any way to prevent this? Will some servers not play the subtitles?

This error message should only appear for the first reel if the text appears in less than 4 seconds.
If your subtitles only appear on the third reel, this message should not appear in DoM (Perhaps a small bug) even if the text appears at 00:00:00 of that reel.
There should be no problem in this case with any server.

That''s what I think too, as the first subtitle file is for reel 3 but for some reason I still get this warning

Indeed, it shouldn't be an issue.
You probably describe the use of a dummy/empty subtitles' file(s) for the first reel(s), since it is a SMPTE package.
It may happen that the timing of an empty subtitle is put before the 4th second. Especially if the first reel is -say- a really short animated logo.
It won't show, but it will probably trigger the alert.
