I did a search (or two) but I didn't find an answer. So, here is the question:
Does any difference between the versions of the two programs on the different computers means trouble?
If not, is there a way to check if a version of one is compatible with the other (without the obvious trial and error)?
Main application and server versions (mis)match

Re: Main application and server versions (mis)match
So far (as far as I know, at least) we've managed to keep them compatible within minor versions. So any 2.16.x versions should work together, as should any 2.18.x, but you can't mix 2.16.x with 2.18.x.

I was under the impression that the compatibility was more... peculiar. Good to know, thank you for your feedback, Carl.

Unfortunately it's not 100% an exact science, and there could be bugs, but that's the intent at least...
