Modify DCP to incorporate new audio and subtitles

Post by dcpforever »

Hello.
I have created a DCP with 7.1 sound using Davinci Resolve. It has four reels and is correct.
But now the client tells me that I must also incorporate 5.1 sound and English subtitles (the audio is in Spanish).
So I have to create four playlists, with 7.1 and 5.1 sound, with subtitles and without subtitles.
Is it possible to do this in DCPoMatic? In other words, import the original DCP, incorporate the new audio and subtitles, and create a new DCP with four CPLs?

Yes, you can do that in DCP-o-matic.

However, you should probably create a 5.1 OV first, and then create subtitled and 7.1 VFs from it.

You can't do that in one go, however, adding subtitled VFs is pretty straightforward. Cinemas do not expect a single Multi-CPL package. On the contrary, it is more common to receive/distribute an OV and multiple VFs in separate packages. So cinemas can choose which package to ingest.

If you absolutely feel the need to supply all versions in a single package, you can first create 4 individual DCPs, and the combine them later using DCP-o-matic combiner. But again, technically this is not necessary.

If I am asked to make changes to a DCP that has already been delivered, I usually make supplementary DCPs (VF) and send them to the client. This works very well, of course.

But if the client asks me for several soundtracks (5.1 and 7.1) with subtitles before delivering the DCP, then I prefer to make a single DCP, so everything goes in one package and the client doesn't get confused about which one to send. It's happened to me before. That's all.

Okay, so, if already delivered, the 7.1 OV is a given, and you need to make 7.1 +Subs, 5.1 with and without subs VFs, I get it.
