Hi there! I'm trying to replace about a second of footage on a DCP in the middle of a film and thought I could do this with a VF.
I've loaded in the DCP, tried setting it as a OV for video and audio before loading the replacement clip. In anycase, after I load the replacement clip, I get this error message:
Cannot reference this DCP's video: it overlaps other video content
Cannot reference this DCP's audio: it overlaps other audio content
Which is true and what I want... not sure how to solve this and hoping to find an answer here, thanks!

The most straight forward way would be to use reels in a non-destructive way. Meaning to use the OV up to a point and from a point on, and have (given the OV is one reel) three reels in total. In concept, what you were planning to do.
You can not do that with DCP-o-matic though. It's a feature that was not planned from the beginning and as the complexity of the program gets higher, the chances for that to be implemented go from "improbable" to "not a one".
You either need to use some other software, or go manual, in which case, you need to "cross all the «t»s and dot all the «i»s".

Hi,
This is actually possible with DCP-o-matic. You can simply reload the OV DCP, or use right-click -> Repeat.
1. Create a new project. In the DCP tab -> Reels select "Split by video content"
2. Load the OV DCP twice (or click "Repeat") and load the replacement clip. Arrange the assets in the right order : OV DCP ; replacement clip ; OV DCP

3. In Tools -> Version File select the OV parts you want to re-use (typically all of them)
4. Use the Timing tab to set the correct end point for the first reel and the correct start point for the third reel.
Hope this helps.

Yep, that works.
I remember shortening DCPs, for the sake of intros and pitch presentations, but I have never used the same OV twice.
Nice catch, barber!
