Largish scale distribution

Post by funkytwig »

Hope it's OK to post this here, if not, sorry.

I recently created a DCP for someone, and they now have 300 cinemas in the UK that want it. Think digital distribution is the way to go, but not sure best way to deliver potentially 52TB of data (DCP is 175GB). Did contact LANSAT, but think it may be best to do it through a simple like (guess it should be password protected). Megasync do a plan with 120TB/month (£18/month), but you have to pay for a year. £207, which seems OK, but wondering what people recommend.

I can talk from my experience in Spain, where DCPs I created have had this kind of distribution.

That "someone" is a newcomer in movie distribution? You can't do things this way on a national scale. Most cinemas won't even accept a download link like that. Do you have the contact of all the venues? I don't know LANSAT but here we have similar companies that will take care of the distribution.
Otherwise Deluxe UK will surely offer the service. That kind of companies have direct access to the cinema servers and upioad the contents to them. If 300 cinemas really want to show your DCP, they'll pay for it and you will be able to afford nation-wide distribution.
Is your DCP encrypted?
Also consider contacting an independent film distributor in the UK, they may be happy to help you distribute in exchange of a share.
Otherwise consider 300 physical deliveries, may be cheaper than deluxe if you recover the hard discs.

You should contact Gofilex.nl

Cinemas are not keen to use a generic download service. Yeah, some few will, but 300...
