Audio not synced correctly with video

Post by hoost »

Hello! This is my first post and I'm very new to this.

I imported a .mov file that I created to DCP-o-matic, but when I play the video in DCP-o-matic, the audio is out of sync. I think I got it pretty close by adding a delay of 370ms. This worries me, though, because when I play the original .mov file, everything is in sync. So I'm not sure if adding the 370ms will cause a problem when the DCP file is created or if it's the right solution to solve the problem. Unfortunately, I don't have any way to test the video on a projector, so I'm not sure what the best way to test this might be.

Again, I'm super new to all this, and this project is just meant as a surprise for a couple of friends to enjoy. So I apologize for my lack of knowledge! Any help is appreciated!

What version of DCP-o-matic are you using?

Is it feasible to send me the video file? (carl@dcpomatic.com)

Are you using mac, Windows or Linux?

By the way, in case the email went to spam, just letting you know I emailed the file. No rush, of course! Just making sure the email didn't go to junk haha.

Dear Carl,

I seem to have the same problem with the mov file.
I've created a movie while honestly having no idea about technical things... sorry.
We were using iMovie on a mac-book.
We don't know why but iMovie has setup the following parameters:
59,9401 fps
1920x1080 pixels

If I choose DCP-O-Matic to use 30fps (the cinema I want to show the movie allows that, that has been tested with a 5min trailer of the film), audio and video is clearly out of sync. :-(

Can you give a hint what we could do?
I would also be open to provide the .mov file to you but its 1h 54min >230GB.

thanks in advance, Karsten

I'm using 2.18.3 which seems to me the latest version.

@hoost

I'm just playing back your file here in DCP-o-matic on a mac (OS 15.2) and it looks OK to me. For example, the explosion at about 12:03 looks in sync and certainly way off if I add a delay of 370ms.

I'm playing through the built-in speakers of a MacBook. What are you playing through? What does the "sound" tab of the DCP-o-matic preferences look like?
