Add 5 Seconds INTRO to a DCP

I have a DCP which has both Subtitled and Dubbed version of a feature.

I have the DKDM of the DCP for DOM.

I need to add a 5 second intro to the DCP.

What is the best way to do this?

I can always generate a PRORES using DOM and then use that PRORES to add the INTRO and generate a MXF out of it in Adobe Premiere and use that MXF in DOM again to generate my DCP. Is that a good way to do this? Is there any loss in this process?

Os ir there a way i can simply generate a VF for the DCP with my intro video file added to it?

Why would you want to create a VF in order to have a DCP with your intro? Will the DCP be played with and without your intro?

Adding an intro is quite easy technically - load your intro (e.g. ProRes), load your DCP. The create a new DCP from it. The Prores-Part will be converted to J2K, the preexisting DCP will be passed through. You may need to adjust some audio and resolution settings to match both parts.

Dear Carsten. I thought that creating a VF would save time in encoding. The DCP will not be played without intro as I will provide KDMs only for the VF.

If I create a new DCP then will it undergo complete encoding?

Dear Carsten, I am back with more details on this.

The DCP has 2 CPLs. Version SUB and Version DUB.
The DCP is encrypted. I have the DKDM for both the versions.
The 2 CPLs refer to the same Video Files but different audio files.
There are 9 Reels.
The SUB version has 9 Subtitle files one for each reel and Arial Font

I am confused as to what is the correct way to add my intro? Kindly guide.

Should i generate one DCP first (SUB) and use that as the OV for my DUB version?

If you use a pre-existing DCP, it will not be re-encoded (unless you explicitly tell DCP-o-matic to do so). DCP-o-matic will detect content that has already been encoded and will pass through it's content to the new DCP.

Dear Carsten,

I am getting an error when generating the DCP. Here is the log. If i uncheck the "Use Subtitles" option then it gets generated but upon playing does not show the subtitles. Below is the log. This is with the version 2.11.34

I also tried with the version 2.16.30 but in the subtitles tab i am not able to reference to the OV. A message shows up but does not show up completely. It is truncated. Image attached.

That message is odd - I'm not sure why it's there. I removed it in this build - perhaps you could install that, try again, and let us know how you get on?

Thanks for providing that build. I will test it out within the next 30 minutes.

I have the following 2 queries though to check if my understanding is correct to create the INTRO included content.

1. Is creating a VF the only way to prevent re-encoding? Or can I create a complete new DCP without having to re-encode the original DCP so that I have to deliver one single package instead of the OV and VF?

2. If I choose to burn the Subtitles into the video then it will definitely go for re-encoding. Is that correct?

Dear Carl, With the temporary build 2.16.70-e627edd the DCP generation process seems to error out after processing the intro (or may be at the end of it) or may be at the start of the first reel of the DCP.
