Odd Duration Issue

Post by cxi2001 »

Having some weirdness with timing exporting a DCP.

The original Quicktime MOV file is 10min 5sec long, however when i create a DCP the footage content ends at around 7minutes in and there is black until the end at 10min 5seconds.

The original MOV file is 25p and the created DCP is 25p too.

It's like everything has sped up within the 10min ?!

Never encountered this before.

Any suggestions welcome !

Sounds like some bug in DCP-o-matic. You could try it again with the test download which has some fixes for this kind of problem. Alternatively, if you can give the MOV file somehow I can take a look.

Thank you - have tried the beta version and that has created a version with black instead of one particluar 1 minute section - though it does get to the end, the duration is actually correct now ! It's all a bit odd - would using a Pro Res 422 HQ be the issue ? I'll try a standard 422 instead.

Weird that this happens with a Prores Source. We have seen a range of different frame rate issues across all those weird permutations of h.264.

Has this Prores file been created with original Apple software, or 'non-Apple'?

Using plain vanilla Prores 422 may be a solution. You could also try an older stable version that did not yet contain the various frame rate related fixes, e.g. 2.14.59 from here: https://dcpomatic.com/old-downloads

A Pro Res LT seemed to work better (i'm exporting from Premiere Pro) and does have any timing issues. Will try a 422 also a DNXHD MXF out of interest.
