Summary0003082: Lowering frame rate of imported DCP causes incorrect playback and programming error message
Description

Lowering (halving) the framerate of an imported DCP causes the preview playback stop half way and generates a programming error message during DCP generation:
Thu 28 Aug 2025 10:56:23 CEST: ERROR: Reel sound asset has length 251 but reel period is 252
Thu 28 Aug 2025 10:56:23 CEST: ERROR: Error in job: Programming error at ../src/lib/reel_writer.cc:582 251 vs 252 (It is not known what caused this error.

Bug is present on both Linux and Windows.

Steps To Reproduce
  • New project
  • Add DCP
  • Right click added DCP Advanced settings->Override detected frame rate: change from 24 to 12
  • Disable audio: Content->Audio tab -> deselect all tracks
  • Press play: Playback stops midway, not expected. Additional presses advances playback one frame only.
  • Jobs->Make DCP: Generates error message: Programming error at ../src/lib/reel_writer.cc:582 251 vs 252
Additional Information

The reason for wanting to lower the frame rate in the first place is that from time to time I receive very short DCPs with backdrops (5s). To improve the appearance I want to increase the duration to about 10s to make room for smooth video fade in and out.
Only adding the video mxf and changing its frame rate works, so I guess that this bug really is low priority.
